The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Self Referral Physiotherapy
UHL physiotherapy service provides physiotherapy at all three hospital sites, as well as local GP surgeries. It is aimed at providing high-quality evidence-based care for all patients who have a musculoskeletal (bone, muscle or joint) problem and provides you with the tools to effectively record and return to normal life as quickly as possible.

If you self-refer you will be contacted via telephone by a senior member of the team who will discuss your referral with you. This will be from a private or unknown number. Please not they are not able to speak to family members over the phone; if you are unable to speak to them directly over the phone then please tick the box asking not to receive a phone call and you will then be sent an appointment letter.
If you are under a consultant for the problem you are considering referring yourself for then unfortunately they are unable to see you until receiving a referral from your consultant.
In House First Contact Physiotherapy
Bone, joint or muscle issue? You can now see a specialist physiotherapist (FCP) here instead of the GP. This gives you faster access to expert diagnosis and you’ll leave with the advice and exercises you need to start tackling the problem. The physio can also refer you on to hospital services where necessary, order tests and write prescriptions.
Nationally, just 5% of patients choose to see a GP afterwards and 96% would recommend the service to friends or family. Speak to the receptionist if you need to make an appointment.

What is an FCP?
First contact physiotherapists (FCPs) are advanced practitioners working within primary care with extensive expertise in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. FCPs see patients with (suspected or diagnosed) MSK conditions as the first point of contact, instead of a GP, and can be accessed directly by contacting the practice’s reception.
Can an FCP see me for my issue?
FCPs can see all soft tissue injuries, sprains, strains or sports injuries. They can see problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons or bones, eg tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, ankle sprains. They can also see back and neck pain, including when this causes pain in arms or legs, including nerve symptoms, eg pins and needles or numbness.
What will the appointment include?
A typical FCP appointment involves assessment, diagnosis and first-line treatment. FCPs can also refer patients for a course of physiotherapy treatment, order investigations or make referrals into secondary care services using the same pathways as GPs.

You should get information before you travel so that vaccinations can be planned, ideally no later than:
Holidays – at least 8 weeks before you travel Backpackers and working abroad – 3-6 months before you travel
Your practice or surgery will need to know:
Departure and return dates
Countries visiting
Type of stay (holiday, backpack, occupational etc)
Allergies
Female patients – pregnant now or wanting to be
Vaccines you have had previously
There is a charge for most vaccines and not all may be available so you may be referred to other practices or specialist travel clinics for some vaccines.
